"Cheap is expensive....." I remember feeling very offended upon hearing those words for the very first time. Why? Frankly it's because I pride myself in being very cheap and frugal.
Yes!!! I'm that chick. And I proudly waved the cheap banner until this happened.
Yes you guessed it. My shoe ripped in the middle of the street in the city centre. Now if you live in Nairobi you know that Nairobeans stare. They stare for days and have no problem laughing out loud. It happened near Nyayo house. Luckily I was with my dear sister who came up with the brilliant idea of buying sandals (cheap sandals) at a nearby shoe stall (Anyone familiar with the "mia tano, mia tano, mia tano mia tano jingle? then you'll know what I'm talking about) She was my knight in shinning armour on a boda boda.
I put on my new cheap sandals and went about town praying very diligently that the same would not happen with the (cheap) sandals. Luckily I managed to get home without the occurrence of another embarrassing ordeal.
I couldn't help but wonder if the shoes would have ripped if they were bought from bata or clarks or a boutique at a cost of 2,000/= I bought mine for just 500/=. They were only a month old.
My question to you is cheap really expensive? I never thought so until today.......
